Everything started a week ago for me.

My computer was working fine the day before I made the fatal decision of re-installing windows XP. I had the Win XP SP2 CD with me. I usually re-install OS every 6-8 months(probably because I tamper with it a lot). But this time, I did not know that I would have a torrid time for at least a week. Well, re-installing Win XP four times in a row in four days would explain the horrid time I had.

My computer is a 6 months old Del Latitude D530. When I re-installed OS for the first time, everything looked fine to me. Since I had Win XP SP2, I had to install all the requisite windows update. I installed all other necessary softwares. Then came the trouble for me. My XP started to freeze infrequently for no reaosns. I tried all my best. At office, it would freeze right in between my code.

I believed it to be an installation issue and re-installed OS, again with all the XP updates. The nexy day, the same problem came. This time I called the DELL Support center and told them my problem. They ran all the diagnostics(tool around 4 hours of my wokr time) and could not find anything. They just gave up saying it is a software issue for which they would need to do further debugging.

Then I sa a solution where one of the guys was saying to change the Pwoer management to Standard PC from windows ACPI(I have no clu what it is). I did that and it worked for me for the rest of the day. But when I restarted my computer , all my drivers got busted and my computer started to behace as it was a 640*480 machine. It wont allow me to do anything. I again re-installed.

The issue surfaces again the next day. I had no other choice but to live with it for the nex two working days as I had already spent a lot of time on it. Then today, friday night, something struck me. My laptop has not hardware issues. The only thing different between a working XP prior to my windows re-installation and the new one was Windows XP SP3 patch.

I decided to uninstall the same and try my luck. You wont believe it. I have tested my Windows heavily with all softwares running and it hass not yet crashed. I now believe that SP3 was the reason for my infrequent freezes and I really hope that my belief is right, not only for me but also for others who are facing this irritating Win XP freezes.

Hope this helped some guy his time and money

Kumaresan

First Trip To US

My First Trip To US... Should I say 'Around The World In Five Weeks'... hmm .. not yet as it is yet to be over ...

Well.... It has been quite a few days I have been here in SFO(San Francisco)

I started from Hyderabad on Feb 24 night along with my team mate Allen. The CAB(a whilte coloured LANCER) was waiting for me downstairs at my apartments. I took the two big Suitcases along with a shoulder bag. I had to leave from my Apartment and go to Ameerpet to pick up my team mate. After picking him up, we both started towards what was going to be our maiden trip the so called US. On the way we had to go the sweet shop(Pulla Reddy's) to get some sweet for our Indian counterparts working in the US. We bought around two kilo of sweets with us.

<photo1>

Our first destination was Singapore. The flight to Singapore got delayed by an hour as they had to deport a person for security reasons. This was just when the flight was ready tp take off. Huh... at least they were good enough to find a security breach before the flight took off..

Inside the flight they had this Video on Demand facility...It was a four hours flight and in those four hours I found time to eat and wathc 'Parineeta'. We landed on to Singapore at around 7:00 in the morning.

The Changi airport is quite a Big one and it in itself will require half a day for sight seeing. We did not want to waste time. So we took the next available free tour. The tour we took was a Cultural tour and took us to the Asean museum over there. It was a nice one and a half hour tour in and around Singapore. I would say you need to go around on your own to see more but if you are there for the first time, such tours may help you.

After having completed the tour, we went to book a room in Airport butb had to satisy us with and entry in one of the private lounge. We then went inside, took a bath over there, freshened ourselves up and started searching for an Indian restaurant. We ended up going to on in Terminal 1 called Kaveri.
</photo1>
After that, it was just romaing about in the airport. We were there in the airport till 5. Then we had to board the Singapore airlines to SFO.

The journey to SFO was a long one. Thanks GOD...I got an aisle seet and that helped me stretch my legs. I reached SFO at around 7 in the night. My teammates were there waiting for me. They took me to the hotel. And after that it was a long sleep in the hotel.

VGP Meet at Chennai

The Worst Mistake of My Life

Well how do I say this. Let me start from first. I had been to Chennai, my hometown, with the sole purpose that my Mom's birthday was coming nearer. In fact my Moms' birthday was on May 30 which falls on Monday. Hence I had made a trip to Chennai on May 27th. I had to return on May 29th as I had not taken a leave.

During my stay over there I had planned to buy either an AC or a Fridge for my parents. I ended up buying Fridge which was my mothers foremost interest. The Fridge was to be delivered on May 30th i.e. on my Moms birthday. I never realised this coincidence when the shopkeeper had told me the day of delivery and neither had I had any intention of buying this as a present.

After all this when I left Chennai, I had in my mind that I would call up my Mom and wish her as soon as I reach Hyderabad(place where I work). But to my dismay, it never came to my mind that today was my moms birthday. I called her up at around 11:00 in the morning and told her that I had safely reached over here. The conversation ended there.

After that when I was leaving the office, I called up again at 6:00 in the evening, to just verify whether the Fridge was delivered or not. My Mom said it was not and it would take another day to be delivered. She also told me of an incident where my Father had called up my sister early in the morning, even before my mother woke up, and reminded her to call up my mother to wish her. It was at that point that I remembered that it was my Moms birhtday. I told her that I really wanted to wish her but did not know how it slipped from my mind. My Mom said that it was not an issue. In fact she said that she was waiting for the Birthday present which I had bought her. I was surprised as I had not bought any present for her. She then told me that she was waiting for the Fridge which I had bought for them. Only then I realized the coincidence and was really in awe of my mother, how she had thought it as a present when I never mentioned nor I intended that.

This is one of the incidents that made me think that Parents are parents and never can you do something which can equal what they have done for you. I would never like to forget my Parents birthday again in future but only time can tell that as I have a serious probem of forgetting things :-)

My First Post

I am Kumaresan well know by 'murukku'.
