The Worst Mistake of My Life

Well how do I say this. Let me start from first. I had been to Chennai, my hometown, with the sole purpose that my Mom's birthday was coming nearer. In fact my Moms' birthday was on May 30 which falls on Monday. Hence I had made a trip to Chennai on May 27th. I had to return on May 29th as I had not taken a leave.

During my stay over there I had planned to buy either an AC or a Fridge for my parents. I ended up buying Fridge which was my mothers foremost interest. The Fridge was to be delivered on May 30th i.e. on my Moms birthday. I never realised this coincidence when the shopkeeper had told me the day of delivery and neither had I had any intention of buying this as a present.

After all this when I left Chennai, I had in my mind that I would call up my Mom and wish her as soon as I reach Hyderabad(place where I work). But to my dismay, it never came to my mind that today was my moms birthday. I called her up at around 11:00 in the morning and told her that I had safely reached over here. The conversation ended there.

After that when I was leaving the office, I called up again at 6:00 in the evening, to just verify whether the Fridge was delivered or not. My Mom said it was not and it would take another day to be delivered. She also told me of an incident where my Father had called up my sister early in the morning, even before my mother woke up, and reminded her to call up my mother to wish her. It was at that point that I remembered that it was my Moms birhtday. I told her that I really wanted to wish her but did not know how it slipped from my mind. My Mom said that it was not an issue. In fact she said that she was waiting for the Birthday present which I had bought her. I was surprised as I had not bought any present for her. She then told me that she was waiting for the Fridge which I had bought for them. Only then I realized the coincidence and was really in awe of my mother, how she had thought it as a present when I never mentioned nor I intended that.

This is one of the incidents that made me think that Parents are parents and never can you do something which can equal what they have done for you. I would never like to forget my Parents birthday again in future but only time can tell that as I have a serious probem of forgetting things :-)
